Isaac Luck - builder, architect

Isaac Luck was born on 12 May 1817 in Oxford, England the son of Jesse and Mary Luck. He was in partnership with John Plowman as builders and architects until this partnership was dissolved in 1850.

Some building work undertaken in England.
1846 - builders of "Littlemore" the Oxfordshire Pauper Lunatic Asylum. Their contract price was £18,381 7s 0d. Architect C. H. Howell.
1847 - architects of a parsonage house at Burton Dasset near Kineton, Warwickshire.
1847 - Architects for additional wings and enlarging of the Oxfordshire Pauper Lunatic Asylum.
1847 - surveyors for the pulling down of the Old County Gaol at Aylesbury.
1849 - builders for alterations and additions to Union Poor House at Faringdon.

He arrived in Lyttelton as a chief cabin passenger on the Steadfast on 8 June 1851. He was one of the godparents of Wilfred Lewis Mountfort the son of Benjamin Mountfort when he was baptised on 22 February 1852. The following year on 20 April 1853 he married Susanna (or Susan/Susannah) Wale Mountfort the sister of Benjamin Mountfort at the Lyttelton Anglican Church.

After his retirement he returned to England where in 1881 he is shown as residing at 20 Westfield Park, Bristol with his wife Susan and daughters Kate, Dora and Mary. He was then aged 64 and his wife 53 years.


He died in England in 1881. Susan Wale Luck died while on a visit to Navestock, Essex on 15 February 1889 aged 60 years. She had been living at 139 Sutherland Avenue, London prior to her death.
